Dead man found in Greenfield river identified
GREENFIELD — The man found dead in the Fall River last week has been identified as Michael F. Hogarty, 56, whose last known address was in Marlborough. The body was discovered Dec. 2 by construction workers repairing the bridge over the Fall River that connects Greenfield and Gill via Route 2.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has yet to determine the official cause of Hogarty’s death. However, the preliminary investigation into this incident does not suggest that foul play was involved, or that the public has any reason to be concerned for its safety, according to a press release from First Assistant District Attorney Steven Gagne.
State Police detectives attached to the DA’s office are in charge of the investigation.
The DA’s office and state police have not said how they think the victim came to be in the river.
