Letter: Wheelchair paranoia?
This letter is addressing the paranoid woman’s letter reference to speeding on the sidewalks. Wheelchairs do not belong in the road for quite a number of reasons. Safety is the main issue.
How many times have I encountered bicycles and skateboards on the sidewalk? Let’s not forget the people wearing their headphones — it is not a safe way to walk in public. Doesn’t matter what I tell them when I tell them “Passing on the right,” they can’t hear.
Years ago at Cherry Rum Plaza, a heroin addict stole my purse off my chair. If I had to run after him to catch him he would have gotten away. Fortunately, he was caught because of my big mouth as soon as I entered the doctor’s office, I yelled “that man just stole my purse!” There were off-duty police officers inside that tore after him catching him.
Before the wheelchair, three times in my life I have been raped and I had many more abilities than I do now. If I was an ugly woman, I wouldn’t have that worry, well, I’ve less ability.
