Area pair charged with stealing TV  from Greenfield home

GREENFIELD — An area man and woman were arrested after allegedly breaking into a home and stealing a flat-screen TV.

Jeffery Poirier, 28, of 69 3rd St., Turners Falls, and Veronica Gould, 34, formerly of 46 Forest Ave., Greenfield, pleaded innocent to a single charge of breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony, in Greenfield District Court Thursday.

Police responded to 46 Forest Ave. at about 7:43 p.m. Wednesday, for a reported burglary.

They were met by a woman who had been house-sitting for the tenant, according to a report filed by officer Emily Rowell.

The house-sitter said she had been sleeping at about 1:30 in the afternoon, when she awoke to the sound of a slamming door, wrote Rowell. Looking outside, she saw a man and woman she knew loading a large flat-screen TV into the back of a Chevy Avalanche, according to the report.

On further investigation, Montague police notified Rowell that a Chevy Avalanche pickup was also sought in connection with a house break in their town, in which $1,200 was reported missing after thieves gained entry by removing an air conditioner.

Charges in that incident had not been filed as of Thursday afternoon.

The vehicle was later located, with the engine running and the passenger’s door open, wrote officer Cody Guilbault. When police approached it, he wrote, Poirier exited the truck and assumed the prone position, allowing him to easily be handcuffed.

Poirier is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 28 for a pretrial conference, while Gould is set to appear in court again on Sept. 26.
