Letter: A chip reader
When I read the Classified section, I usually note the Lost-and-Found sections with ads for pet dogs.
Our dog was a “rescue” who had the good fortune to be placed with a couple who had their vet check his health but also had him microchipped. When I tried to find someone in this area who had a microchip reader I discovered that they were rare. I contacted the vet who implanted the chip and obtained the necessary information. The company that registers the microchip realized that this was a problem and offered a tag for his collar. So well and good but what happens if he slips out without his collar?
I hope the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department’s new facility has or will obtain a reader. This will greatly help reunite the dogs and their owners assuming the owners have had their vet implant a chip. The cost of implanting a chip is minimal and some vets do it for little or no charge.
