Greening Greenfield to show film on nuclear industry
Jan. 30 at 6:45 p.m. at Garden Cinemas
GREENFIELD — The Greening Greenfield energy committee and Concerned Citizens of Franklin County will be joined by anti-nuclear Citizens Awareness Network, SAGE Alliance, and Safe & Green Campaign in offering a one-time-only showing of the film “The Atomic States of America.”
The film on the nuclear industry is a documentary on Shirley, Long Island, N.Y., a nuclear reactor community. It will be shown at the Greenfield Garden Cinemas Jan. 30 at 6:45 p.m.
Becca King, one of the organizers and a member of the local energy committee, said she expects a large crowd and that is why Greening Greenfield has rented one of the theaters, instead of using the Second Congregational Church’s meeting hall as it usually does for events like this one.
This is the second film in a four-film series being offered by Greening Greenfield this year.
King said the groups would like to bring attention to the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant issues, in particular, and would like to provide information to people who might not think nuclear energy is problematic.
She said the point of the evening will be to educate and stir a dialogue, as well as raise questions and start meaningful discussions.
