Greenfield School Committee seat up for grabs

GREENFIELD — If you want to serve an 18-month term on the Greenfield School Committee without being elected, now’s your chance.

The vacancy left by former member John Lunt, and Greenfield’s recently passed term length change, creates an unusual situation where the next appointee will serve until January 2016.

Appointees typically only fill the slot until the next election, so the appointments rarely last as long as a year.

But Lunt resigned just before the June election, and there wasn’t enough time to get the position on the ballot. The next town election isn’t until November 2015.

Anyone interested in the position should contact Mayor William Martin, the current School Committee chairman, at mayor@greenfield-ma.gov. The School Committee plans to make an appointment next month.

Residents just voted in Maryelen Calderwood to a third term and newcomer Adrienne Nunez to her first term. Margaret Betts, Donna Gleason and Francia Wisnewski are all in the middle of their first terms on the board.
