GREENFIELD — A move this year to a new location on Bernardston Road is allowing Gardner-based health organization GVNA HealthCare to expand its home care services to nine new Franklin County towns.
The 107-year-old not-for-profit organization will now offer nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy and home health aide services to Bernardston, Colrain, Deerfield, Gill, Greenfield, Leyden, Montague, Northfield and Shelburne residents.
It will continue to offer services in Erving, New Salem, Orange, Warwick and Wendell, as well as other towns in Worcester County.
New site for Adult Day Health
GVNA HealthCare also has local openings for its adult day health services, designed for people with caregivers who work or leave the home. About 16 to 17 people come each day to the organization’s new Greenfield location at Cherry Rum Plaza to eat meals, participate in activities and receive physical therapy.
The organization took over a Wells Street location (previously operated by Baystate Health) in December 2011, but moved to the Cherry Rum Plaza at the beginning of this year. It held an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony at the facility last month.
The new facility is a large space better suited to provide adult day health services, said CEO Elaine Fluet. It features nursing and social worker offices as well as a space for the home care nurses to access electronic records and hold case conferences. There is a quiet room that people can use to relax.
Both programs help people stay independent in their own homes, said Fluet, avoid return trips to the hospital or long-term stays in nursing homes.
