Conway to consider moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries
BOSTON — State Sen. Stanley Rosenberg was honored recently for his work to benefit children and families of Massachusetts during the Step Up For Prevention ceremony held by the Children’s Trust Fund at the Statehouse.
Senate President Therese Murray said “Senator Rosenberg is a leader on many important issues in the Legislature but not a day goes by where he isn’t helping a family in his community or working with children across the Commonwealth. There is no one more deserving of this award.”
Rosenberg, the Amherst Democrat who is the Senate majority leader, said: “I believe that there are few things in life that are more honorable than working to improve the lives of children. I am deeply appreciative of this award and look forward to continuing my partnership with the people of CTF and joining them in the great work they do.”
A Statehouse ceremony included a display of 66 pairs of children’s shoes that represented the average number of children abused each day in Massachusetts. The governor’s proclamation of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month was read.
The Boston Bruins supported the event with a donation to purchase shoes, which will be given to families who participate in CTF-funded programs.
While CTF invests in many strategies to support parents in creating healthy home environments for children, this event highlighted services in which family-support professionals visit with parents at their homes.
With a broad coalition of support, CTF has filed legislation to provide Massachusetts with a blueprint to grow statewide evidence-based home visiting programs.
In Rosenberg’s district, which includes many Franklin County towns, CTF funds Healthy Families Franklin County, and the Franklin County Family Center, all operated by anti-poverty agency Community Action.
Also, it funds Valuing Our Children, a Massachusetts Family Center, and the Nurturing Programs, a parent support group, both operated by Valuing Our Children in Athol, and the Family Game: Promoting Positive Parent-Child Communications, a parenting support group in Greenfield operated by The United Arc of Franklin and Hampshire Counties.
