Fall YMCA registration begins

GREENFIELD —Registration is now taking place for the September/October session of YMCA classes and programs.

The Y has programs for children as young as six months (parent/child swim/gym classes) to adults in their nineties (chair fitness, balance & stretch, water fitness). Most of the classes run in eight week session, however many classes will be prorated until they are full. The Y has a Sliding Fee Scale that is based on household size and gross income. The scale can cover up to 70 percent of the cost of the membership or program fee.

Dave Garappolo, Youth & Family Director said “Parents can now register for the Y’s Before & After School Childcare programs serving K-6th goal is to make life easier for working parents. Early care runs from 6:15 to 8:15 a.m. and uses the Game Room while late care goes from school dismissal until 6:00 or 7 p.m. We offer half day care, school vacation week care and even snow day care. The aftercare uses many of the activity areas in the Y so every student gets the doctor recommended 30 to 60 minutes of active play every day.”

Garappolo added “We have a new youth sports format this year where the same age group has their sport on the same day and time throughout the five to eight week sessions of our program year. This will make it easy for parents to plan the entire school year as well as introduce their children to a variety of sports. ... We are now accepting registrations for our Fall Outdoor Soccer Program for boys and girls ages 4 to 12. This meets Tuesday and Thursday nights at the GCC Soccer fields.”

Bob Sunderland, Y executive director, said “Some of the other new programs this year are ‘Born to Move’ a dynamic exercise class for 8- to 12-year-olds, cooking classes for children, a new 40-foot inflatable obstacle course for birthday parties, Parkour training in our gymnastics center, Muay Thai fitness classes, and a new lower level fitness class for seniors called Enhancing Fitness, which is one step above chair fitness classes.”
