Garage contractor falls from scaffolding

SOUTH DEERFIELD — At about 10 a.m. Thursday, a contractor working at the new town highway garage fell 12 feet from scaffolding and had to be transported by air ambulance to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

The 46-year-old Pittsfield man suffered a head injury and possible injury to both wrists. The man was a contractor doing concrete work on the new garage.

Deerfield EMS, Baystate Health Ambulance, Sunderland EMS, South Deerfield Fire Department and a Life Flight Helicopter responded to 34 Sugarloaf St.

Police have not released the name of the victim yet.

Police Chief John Paciorek Jr. said the man was wearing proper equipment. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified and arrived to investigate.
