South Deerfield assessors keep Bruce St. Peters
SOUTH DEERFIELD — The Board of Assessors will have a familiar face at the table at least in the short-term to allow the town to set the tax rate this summer.
The boards of selectmen and assessor appointed Bruce St. Peters to fill the vacated seat on the assessors.
St. Peters, a long-time assessor, did not seek re-election this year. At the same time, St. Peters announced his decision to not run again this year, David Rohrs announced his resignation from the board.
The selectmen said there was not enough time to put two seats on the election ballot. Francis G. Sobieski of 64 Whately Road won the seat vacated by St. Peters. The selectmen had to appoint someone to fill Rohrs seat at least for a short while so the town could set the tax rate.
It left the board with only one assessor certified to set the tax rate. The town needs two certified assessors on the board to set the tax rate in the fall and the next state certification class is not until August.
