Deerfield Rail Yard worker gets injured

DEERFIELD — An East Deerfield Rail Yard employee was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield by LifeFlight helicopter Tuesday after suffering a severe leg injury while working along the railroad tracks.

After the accident, Baystate reported the employee, Robert Charboneau of Greenfield, was in fair condition.

At 11:43 a.m., police, firefighters and EMTs responded to the rail yard at Railroad Avenue for a report of a traumatic leg injury.

By 12:47 p.m., Baystate Health Ambulance of Greenfield transported the man to the South Deerfield Fire Station, where the air ambulance picked him up and flew him to Springfield.

Police and fire officials did not know how the accident occurred. Old Deerfield Fire, Deerfield EMS and Deerfield police responded.

Pan Am Railways, which owns the rail yard, did not return calls for comment for this story.
