Conway may budget more for legal costs
CONWAY — The town has spent $5,500 so far in legal fees for the fiscal year ending July 1.
This compares to $4,317 spent last year.
The current budget has $10,000 reserved for legal expenses. Fiscal Year 2012 had a $8,500 legal budget.
During its budget preparation for budget year 2014 which begins July 1, the Selectboard proposed increasing the legal line item to $15,000 as a precaution. The town is waiting for the findings of an attorney general review of an Open Meeting Law complaint filed by former Town Administrator Edward MacDonald.
This year, the Selectboard has also sought town counsel advice on whether it could allocate trust fund money for accessibility improvements for the Conway Swimming Pool.
The proposed increase is not final yet as the Selectboard and Finance Committee continue to work on the budget.
