Conway Selectboard adds $5,000 to budget for legal costs
CONWAY — Board of Selectmen Chairman John O’Rourke requested the town add an extra $5,000 in the coming year’s budget for legal costs.
The town usually budgets $10,000 for legal fees. That amount could grow to $15,000 if approved and submitted in the final budget and authorized by townspeople at the annual town meeting.
“We’ll have to find out whether the legal costs in a certain matter would be covered,” said O’Rourke during a recent joint meeting of the Selecboard and Finance Committee.
The request follows complaints made by the former town administrator, Ed MacDonald, who says the town owes him $14,301 in owed wages and benefits after he left his job of less than two months. The Selectboard has disputed the claim.
The Selectboard and Finance Committee met Tuesday to kick-off the budget season. The two groups discussed the draft budget and scheduled budget hearings with different town boards.
