Conway proposes $140,242 hike to annual budget

CONWAY — Townspeople will be asked to spend $140,242 more next year for the town’s budget.

The draft budget proposes $4,915,985 in spending for the year that begins July 1. The budget would increase by 2.85 percent over the current year.

Townspeople will be asked to approve the budget at the annual town meeting on May 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Conway Grammar School.

The budget won’t be final until the Board of Selectmen approves it at its next meeting on Monday.

As typical for most towns, school budgets account for much of the increase.

The Conway Grammar School wants to spend $62,031 more. The budget is $1,708,519.

The town’s contribution to Frontier Regional School increased by $45,689.

Costs for the Franklin County Technical School decreased by $25,927.

Town insurance increased by $3,105.

The Police Department budget increased by $1,822 while the Fire Department budget increased by only $380.
