Conway residents OK new Highway Dept. pickup

CONWAY — Voters have approved $58,000 for the town to get a new pickup truck for the highway department and additional funds to have an outside audit on its finances.

On Monday, they quickly approved four articles at a special town meeting.

For $13,000, the town will get an audit of its finances, which would allow it to borrow money to build a new highway garage. The town is working to place a new highway garage behind the salt shed on the property of the Conway Grammar School. So far, it has $175,000 for engineering designs and permitting for the project.

The town also agreed to spend $45,000 to pay for a replacement of a town pickup. The former truck is a Chevrolet Silverado. Its original cost was $32,301.

Voters also backed a request legislation allowing Robert Baker and Ronald Hawkes to continue serving on the Fire Department. The original article stated to allow Baker to serve until he was 67 and Hawkes until he was age 68. Residents amended the article, requesting no age limit.
