Cavolick voted into post as Colrain selectman
COLRAIN — Jack Cavolick is the new selectman who will fill the shoes of Duane Scranton, after his nearly 40 years of service.
Cavolick defeated his opponent, Michael Friedlander, by a vote of 187 to 94.
Town Clerk Robin Hartnett said Tuesday’s annual election and state primary drew 309 out to the of the town’s 1,094 registered voters — for a 28 percent voter turnout.
Also, by a vote of 178 to 88, voters said agreed to a ballot question seeking approval for a debt-exclusion that would temporarily raise taxes to help pay for a new fire pumper. An annual town meeting article will ask to borrow up to $405,000, with the remaining $50,000 to come from the fire department’s stabilization account, according to Town Coordinator Kevin Fox.
The following incumbents were re-elected to three-year terms:
Board of Assessors Nicholas Anzuoni, Town Clerk Robin Hartnett, Library Trustee Michelle Hellman, Constable Michael Friedlander, and Mohawk Trail Regional School Committee member Nina Martin-Anzuoni.
Carol Lively was elected to an open three-year library trustee position.
