COLRAIN — The Town Office has a new roof, thanks to volunteers who did the job over the past week or so, according to Town Coordinator Kevin Fox.
Fox said about seven or eight volunteers worked on the roof last week, stripping off the old roof of asbestos and metal, then laying down new plywood sheathing and an ice barrier before re-shingling it.
“They also are doing soffit work,” said Fox.
A contractor will be hired to do the insulation, he said.
Fox said the old roof was beginning to leak, and the shingles were starting to curl. “It would have leaked more and more,” he said.
When asked how much money the volunteer labor was worth, Fox estimated they had saved the town $12,000 to $15,000.
