Rowe school board meeting Thursday
ROWE — A special Rowe School Committee meeting has been called for Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Hawlemont Regional School cafeteria. The agenda includes a review of bus routes and options. The school board is trying to reduce the length of time some Rowe School children spend on the school bus, to commute to Hawlemont.
COLRAIN — Two free, guided hikes are planned for Catamount Hill on Sunday morning. Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Colrain Central School and decide which hike you would like to join. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring a lunch. For more information, call Muriel Russell at 624-3311 or Sue Samoriski at 625-9916.

CHARLEMONT — Oct. 17 is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 6 presidential election. A special voter registration will take place that day in the town clerk’s office, in Town Hall from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m. If you have questions, call Town Clerk Kathy Reynolds at 339-4335, ext. 7.
COLRAIN — Excavating Solutions Inc. was hired by selectmen to stabilize the slope on South Green River Road, for a low bid of $15,200. The work is eligible for 75 percent reimbursement through a Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. The town will be responsible for picking up about 25 percent of the cost, unless additional aid is available from the state.
Shelburne Falls water rules eased
SHELBURNE FALLS —Residents can again wash their cars or run their lawn sprinklers, now that the Shelburne Falls Fire District and the state Department of Environmental Protection’s Water Management Action program have lifted the water-use restrictions for this year.
The fire district issued water-use restrictions in July, because the water flow had fallen below minimum-required standards. When water-use restrictions are enacted, they only last until Sept. 30, unless there is a state-declared drought, according to fire district Administrator Jan Jefferson.
