Landscape artist at Colrain historic society
COLRAIN — Celebrated landscape artist Gardiner Symons, who painted many scenes in Colrain in the early 1900s, will be the subject of a Colrain Historical Society program Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Joan McQuade, 7 Main Road, Colrain.
Deborah Wheeler will discuss Symonds’ life and major works and show a multitude of paintings he did in the Shattuckville portion of Colrain. The painter, who was a summer resident of Colrain and Shelburne, painted many views of the North River from his summer studio, as well as the back porches of houses, stone walls and barns.
A potluck supper will precede the program at 6, followed by an important business meeting at 7 for the annual elections and to consider bylaw changes, all requiring a quorum.
The program is free and open to the public. Members coming to the potluck should bring a main dish, vegetable or dessert to share. Cider and coffee will be provided.
