Academy at Charlemont 5K race to aid NELCWIT
CHARLEMONT — The Academy at Charlemont Community Service Council, with the New England Learning Center for Women in Transition, will host a 5K road race and a fun run on the Academy campus this Saturday.
Both races start at 11 a.m., with registration beginning at 10:30.
The Fun Run is about a mile long, but both are trail runs, according to Mollie Donohue-Meyer, another student Service Council member organizing the races.
“This is the first run our council has ever hosted, although in the past students have hosted Runs for Hunger to benefit the Food Bank,” she said. “Certain students have volunteered with NELCWIT throughout the years, but the school itself has not done a fundraiser for NELCWIT like this before.”
NELCWIT is a nonprofit that combats domestic abuse.
The Academy’s Community Service Council organizes events and drives throughout the school year. The council consists of students from all grade levels, and it works to educate and involve the larger school community in service efforts, both at local and international levels.
Participants in the race will pay an entrance fee — $10 for the Fun Run, $15 for the 5K, and $13 for student runners. They are also encouraged to find sponsors, individuals who give the runner donations in support of NELCWIT. Sponsors should give money and checks directly to the runner before the day of the race, and checks can be made to the Academy at Charlemont. All proceeds to benefit NELCWIT.
The school is at 1359 Route 2.
