Charlemont package store expanding

Adding groceries, cafe to new building

CHARLEMONT — The Cold River Package Store —“that little postage stamp,” as co-owner Kristie Faufaw calls it — will soon be replaced by a new, bigger building that will sell more beer, wine and liquor, but also groceries and cafe fare.

The new construction, behind the present package store, will offer four times more space, plus a cafe. The building is expected to be up and running by this summer.

The shop will be called Cold River Package & Market, and the eatery, at the front of the building, will be called the Cold River Cafe. Faufaw hopes it will appeal to both local people and to the visitors who come to ski, zip-line, bicycle, river-tube and go rafting.

“The location is what made us choose to put in a cafe,” said Faufaw, who is also a co-owner of Ryan & Casey Liquors in Greenfield. She said the location, at the intersection of Main Street and Route 8A South, between Berkshire East and Zoar Outdoor, is “right on the corner of everything.”

Faufaw and the other owners, her husband Michael Sisum, and Peter White, hope to carry local products and wares in the market. She said the cafe will serve breakfast and lunch fare daily, and dinners on a more limited basis.
