Fundraiser planned for fire victims
SHELBURNE FALLS — A benefit will be held on Feb. 1 from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 52 State St., to support Bernardston fire victims, Amanda Coutu and Matthew Jones.
The benefit will feature a Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle, cash bar, food and music by Christopher Neil of Dark Nite Productions. Gift cards and products from many local businesses have been donated for the Chinese auction.
Tickets are $10 apiece and can be purchased at the door. Tickets may be purchased prior to the benefit by calling Meghan McLatchy at 413-768-7930; Sam Horan at 413-313-7071; Kathy Nicholas at 413-522-8948 or Leigh Ann Thayer at 413-768-8905.
Monetary donations may be sent in care of the Benefit for Amanda Boutu and Matthew Jones to the Greenfield Co-operative Bank, 63 Federal St., Greenfield, MA 01301.
Coutu and Jones were one of two families left homeless on Dec. 10, when their home at 64 South St. burned. According to Bernardston Fire Chief Peter A. Shedd, the fire started in the chimney of homeowner Brandon Ovitt’s apartment and quickly traveled to other areas of the two-family home by way of the roof. Although the house was left standing, all of the contents inside were destroyed.
