New Hillcrest principal has short commute
TURNERS FALLS — Hillcrest Elementary School students in the fall will meet Sarah Burstein, the new principal.
Burstein leaves Sunderland Elementary School, where she has taught for three years after a year teaching in Greenfield and five in Newton, said Gill-Montague Regional School District Superintendent Michael Sullivan.
Hillcrest has not had its own principal for several years, since the combination of the Hillcrest and Sheffield elementary schools as the Montague Elementary School in 2010, a decision that the School Committee undid this year at Sullivan’s recommendation.
Burstein said she is excited to bring her experience teaching at the lower elementary levels.
Hillcrest houses the preschool, kindergarten and first grade classes.
Burstein lives in Gill. “It’s great to be working right in my community,” she said.
