UMass to hold forum on Zimmerman verdict on Friday

AMHERST — The not-guilty verdict in the Florida trial of George Zimmerman for the 2012 fatal shooting of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin and its broader meaning in the country will be the focus of a community forum on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in 174-76 Campus Center at the University of Massachusetts.

“Social Justice and Trayvon Martin: An Evening of Contemplation, Support, and Sharing” will include an open forum from 4 to 6 p.m., according to Amilcar Shabazz, professor of Afro-American studies and faculty adviser to UMass Amherst Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy for diversity and excellence.

The forum will be followed by a listening session tuned into TRGGR Radio Live on WMUA 91.1 FM, where global and local guests will speak about the trial verdict and various post-verdict responses.
