Hike to beach part for Warwick’s 250th

WARWICK — Residents will follow in the footsteps of their forefathers Saturday, as they hike the old trail to Moores Pond Beach for the town’s latest 250th anniversary event.

Moores Pond has long been a popular swimming spot in town, but it wasn’t always so easy to get to. Though it’s less traveled now, a path from the Warwick Cemetery through the woods served as the main route to the beach.

Saturday’s hikers will arrive to refreshments and beach music, and those who choose to drive to the beach are welcome to partake, too.

Though sandals may be comfortable at the beach, they’re no good in the woods. The Moores Pond Beach Committee asks that hikers wear sturdy shoes for the hike.

The hike will begin at 10 a.m., from Holden Road. A shuttle will be provided to bring hikers back to their vehicles after the party.
