Tractor-trailer rollover closes section of Route 2
CHARLEMONT — A section of Route 2, between Charlemont and Florida was closed for seven hours Wednesday, after a tractor-trailer rollover near the hairpin turn, which is also know as “Deadman’s Curve.”
According to State Police, the one-vehicle accident occurred at 3:40 p.m., leaving the driver, Clement Leslie, 51, of Vineland, N.J., pinned in the cab, until responders were able to extricate him, about two hours later. Leslie was described as alert and conscious, throughout that time. He was later taken to Berkshire Medical Center.
Response included State Police from the Cheshire and Shelburne Falls barracks, the state’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Collision Reconstruction, and Crime Scene investigation teams. Also, North Adams police, fire and EMTs responded, along with the state Department of Transportation (Mass DOT).
Traffic was rerouted from Whitcomb Hill to Zoar Road until about 10:41 p.m. Wednesday, when Route 2 was reopened.
