Hawlemont to see leaner budget
Meeting set for Tuesday at 4:15
CHARLEMONT — The Hawlemont Regional School District votes Tuesday on a budget request that reduces both Hawley and Charlemont’s elementary school assessments for the coming year.
The School Committee meeting takes place Tuesday, at Hawlemont at 4:15 p.m.
The proposed budget is for $1.37 million, which is a $322,590 reduction from the present school year’s budget. Much of that savings is because the school district paid off its capital debt of $323,64 this year. Also, enrollment is projected to drop, from 96 students this year to 87.
The operating budget represents a 1 percent increase, over this year’s spending plan. If the budget is approved by the school board Tuesday, Charlemont will spend $677,174, which is a $44,749 drop in elementary school spending. Hawley’s assessment, of $153,29, is about $3,000 less than it was this year.
