Two weight loss programs offered at YMCA this month

GREENFIELD — The YMCA in Greenfield is offering two comprehensive weight loss programs beginning Jan. 22 — one for new exercisers and one for exercisers who want a boost to lose more weight.

Jayne Trosin, YMCA fitness director, said, “One of our newest programs is Weight Loss 101, which is a comprehensive weight loss program for those who are new to or just returning to exercise. This program will provide nutrition education, help with lifestyle changes and a supportive staff to aid participants in achieving personal success.”

The program will be held in the private First Step Fitness room, which has strength and cardio equipment. An exercise trainer will provide eight weeks of coaching/support and follow-up. There will also be buddy system support with teams of two as well as accountability with weekly weigh-ins, weekly food journaling and required three or more cardio and strength training sessions every week.

Dawn Dorsey, YMCA Health & Wellness director, said, “With two-thirds of adults overweight, our Y has been offering weight loss challenges several times per year as well as our ongoing programs Exercise is Medicine, Diabetic Care Program and our First Step Fitness program. Being overweight can lead to heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, joint issues and many other health issues. Our Y’s specialty is helping new exercisers or returning exercisers finally develop an exercise habit. Our two weight loss programs provide an even higher level of education, follow-up and accountability.”

Trosin added, “Our second weight loss program is our Master Weight Loss Challenge. This challenge is for regular exercisers who want to take it up a notch to get past a plateau, try new and different workouts, or lose more weight. This challenge includes use of the Nautilus Center, which has two lines of 17 Nautilus machines and 25 cardio machines, individual fitness intakes, team support, weekly weigh-ins for bonus points, three-part nutritional series, required weekly food journaling for bonus points, required three or more cardio and strength training sessions every week, and a cash prize for the winning team.
