Ashfield board to discuss changes to membership
Wednesday meeting starts at 7 p.m.
ASHFIELD — With the sudden resignation of Chairman Douglas Field, the Selectboard will meet Wednesday night to discuss how to reorganize the board and to decide whether to call for a special election for a third board member, who would serve in the post until the annual election in May.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.
Field resigned Thursday.
In his letter of resignation, Field cites an impasse in ongoing discussions about housing conditions and management of the Ashfield House over the past year and a half as a factor in his resignation.
Field said he tried to help the Ashfield House residents who have come to the board, but that he has received “nasty emails,” open meeting law complaints and ridicule during that time.
“At this time, I see no end to all of this,” Field wrote.
The 74-year-old Selectboard member was the town’s fire chief for 22 years and had served on the Fire Department for 35 years.
“So at my age, and to keep my health as good as possible, I am resigning from Ashfield Selectboard as of Nov. 12,” he wrote.
