Morris named assistant chief of Amherst schools
AMHERST — Michael Morris, director of evaluation and assessment for the Amherst public schools, has been named assistant superintendent of schools.
The Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee and the Amherst School Committee voted Tuesday to accept Superintendent Maria Geryk’s recommendation to promote Morris, who joined the central administration in 2012 after serving as principal of Crocker Farm School.
Geryk said in an email that the assistant superintendent’s position has been vacant since she held the job five years ago. She said Morris’ duties will be expanded with his title change and he will receive an increase in pay from the $100,000 he earns now. However, his new salary has not yet been determined.
“We are not adding another person,” to the administrative staff, she added.
Geryk said she decided to reorganize her staff to include an assistant superintendent early this year after considering the change “for some time.”
