Woman with her child in car faces Amherst charge of drunken driving
AMHERST — A Merrimack, N.H., woman who allegedly drove her vehicle while under the influence of alcohol with her 8-year-old child as a passenger was arrested Sunday afternoon, Amherst police said.
Detective Sgt. David Knightly said Monday that Liberty Jeane Lynn, 34, was arrested in the parking lot at Spirit Haus, 338 College St., at 1:37 p.m. on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, second offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger, resisting arrest, child endangerment while under the influence of alcohol, and possession of a Class B substance, a pill.
Knightly said police were called to Colonial Village apartments, 81 Belchertown Road, where Lynn formerly lived and may have been visiting a friend, after a person there observed her driving the vehicle with the child in it.
Lynn’s vehicle was gone when police got there, but less than 10 minutes later it was located at the nearby package store. There Lynn was arrested after struggling with responding officers, Knightly said.
Knightly said the state Department of Children and Families is involved.
