Hadley names new building committee
HADLEY — The Select Board has appointed a new seven-member building committee to guide the town as it decides how to address approximately $19 million in repairs or renovations needed in its aging and historic buildings.
The mission statement of the committee is “to develop and present to the Select Board a viable plan to restore and preserve one or more municipal buildings or to recommend construction of new buildings.”
The appointments come after the town held public forums in January to review the needs of the following buildings: Town Hall, the former Russell School, North Hadley Village Hall, the senior center on Middle Street, the public safety complex, Department of Public Works facilities and Goodwin Memorial Library.
A report by Drummey Rosane Anderson Inc. Architects of South Windsor, Conn., released in September 2013, outlines a wide range of possible renovations, repairs and additions to these town buildings, as well as the sale of some of the property.
Among the seven building committee members appointed Feb. 12 are longtime Building Commissioner Timothy Neyhart, town electrical inspector Wilfred Danylieko and Gary Berg, the town’s building maintenance supervisor.
Also appointed were David J. Waskiewicz, an Amherst building inspector; Dan Regish, a business owner, property manager and building contractor; David B. Tudryn, an architect; and Andrew Klepacki, chairman of the town’s Parks & Recreation Commission.
The committee is expected to hold its first organizational meeting as early as next week. In appointing the committee, the Select Board weighed whether to have three, five or seven members on the panel and ultimately went with seven.
“The more people, the more residents on the committee, the better,” said Select Board member Guilford B. Mooring.
The building committee is responsible for crafting the wording for a ballot question on the disposition of buildings and developing requests for proposals for a project manager and architect and invitations for bids for the possible sale or procurement of the property. In addition, the panel will work with the architect and project manager to design and oversee restoration and construction work.
