Sunshine Story Time: Each Monday morning at 10, Kay Lyons brings a blend of read-aloud, sing-along, play-along fun to families with young children. Half an hour of story time and a few minutes of visiting and play time for active young children is made possible by funding from the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library. This program is held in the LeVanway Meeting Room on the lower level of the building, accessed through the rear or by stairs or elevator from the main floor. For further information, contact Lyons at (413) 772-1544, ext. 5 or check the library website atwww.greenfieldpubliclibrary.org.

Writers’ Lunch: The LeVanway Meeting Room is open this week on Monday from noon to 2 p.m. for a Writers’ Lunch. This is a self-directed free writing time open to any writer who is looking for a place to work through their lunch. Bring your own lunch and beverage and stop in for all or part of the Writers’ Lunch. Contact Jane Buchanan at 413-772-1544 for more details.

Open for Business: Telecommuters and local business people looking for reliable WiFi and a quiet workspace are invited to the library’s LeVanway Meeting Room on Monday and Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. Access to the room is free and open to all who need a space to work.

Holiday Closing: The library will close on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at noon and will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day. We wish all our patrons a happy New Year.

Writer’s Workshop: This two-hour writing workshop runs on Fridays from noon to 2 p.m. Buchanan and Joannah Whitney lead the program, which includes writing exercises and discussion as well as an opportunity to share what has been written. Participants are encouraged to attend the open writing periods during the week as well. There is no charge for the workshop and registration is not required. Contact Buchanan at 413-772-1544 for more details.

Mother Goose on the Loose: Join the happy circle with Lyons at a lap-sit story hour for children age 3 and under with a grown-up every Friday morning at 11 at the Greenfield Public Library. Rhymes, songs, and movement games make up this story time style popularized by author Betsy Diamant-Cohen. Lyons reads books, leads the group in hand rhymes, and uses puppets to teach animal sounds and other concepts new to the very young. Children and grown-ups shake rattles, tap rhythm sticks, wave colored scarves, ring bells, and do knee bounces to simple sing-along tunes that everybody learns together. Each session is 45 minutes, with half an hour of structured activity and about fifteen minutes of visiting time. No sign-up is required, and the program is free thanks to the Friends of Greenfield Public Library.

Library Hours: This week: Monday 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. to noon, Thursday and Friday: 9:30 to 5 p.m., Saturday: 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
