March/April Registration: Register this week for the March/April session of YMCA classes. Youth classes include parent/child classes, swimming and gymnastics lessons, ultimate Frisbee, basketball skills, preschool T-ball, baseball skills, summer camps and full day preschool. Adult classes include water fitness, water therapy, life guarding, strength training, diabetic care program and more. Y Full Day Preschool Open House: On Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be an Open House for the Y’s Full-day Preschool. Preschool teaching staff will be available to discuss curriculum, activities and to answer all questions. The Y is enrolling now for the summer and fall! The school day is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with early (6:30 to 8:30 a.m.) and late (3:30-5:30 p.m.) care available to meet the needs of working parents. The students have a weekly swim/gymnastics lessons during the school year and daily physical education year round. There are two, three and five day options (school year and extended year). Lifeguard Training Class: Completing this eight-week/36 hour course can provide many job opportunities at local pools and lakes. The class is for strong swimmers ages 15 and older; seniors are encouraged to take the course. The course is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 9 p.m., March 4 to April 24. Summer Camp Brochure: The 2014 Camp Brochure is now available so parents can plan their summer. The Y has many camps for ages 3.5-14. There are indoor camps like half- and full-day gymnastics camps, half-day sports camps in the newly air-conditioned gym and Camp Recess (an afternoon camp). The many outdoor Camp Apex options include LEGO camp, Chinese camp, field hockey, rock and roll camp, flag football, Mine Craft, regular Camp Apex and more. Teen Extreme!: This class is for teens, ages 12 and older. Similar to the Y’s popular adult E2 (Extreme Exertion) class, this toned down class will introduce teens to boot camp-type circuit style training. The workout will include strength training as well as cardio. Instructed by Y exercise trainers, this class will provide fun, but quality workouts! Starts March 4, and continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. in the Adams Room. Free for Family or Youth Y members and $48 for 16 weeks of classes for non-members.
