Sunshine Story Time: Each Monday morning at 10, Kay Lyons brings a blend of read-aloud, sing-along, play-along fun to families with young children. There’s 30 minutes of story time and a few minutes of visiting and play time for active young children. This program is held in the LeVanway Meeting Room, lower level of the building. Writers’ Lunch: The LeVanway Meeting Room is open each Monday through Thursday, noon to 2 p.m. for a Writers’ Lunch. This is a self-directed free writing time open to any writer who is looking for a place to work through their lunch. Bring your lunch and beverage and stop in for all or part of the Writers’ Lunch. Open for Business: Telecommuters and local business people looking for reliable WiFi and a quiet workspace are invited to the library’s LeVanway Meeting Room on Mondays and Fridays from 2 to 5 p.m. Access to the room is free and open to all who need a space to work.

Preschool Story Hour: Parents with children, age 5 and younger, join us on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. for a weekly hour of story and craft time fun! Meet other people with small children and enjoy stories, songs, finger plays, and crafts with Sally Ahearn. No sign-up is required for this free program. Creative Nonfiction Writing Group: A creative nonfiction writing group led by Joannah Whitney will meet in the library’s LeVanway Room on Tuesdays in January from 6 to 8 p.m. As with the library’s Friday Writers’ Lunch Workshop, the group is open to anyone on a drop-in basis with no registration required. Whitney will present prompts for participants to write from for timed periods and writers are encouraged to share their work. Participants should call ahead during inclement weather. Chess Club: Meet other chess players on Wednesdays at the library from 5:50 to 7:45 p.m. in the LeVanway Room downstairs in the library. Contact: with any questions.

Mother Goose on the Loose: Join the happy circle with Lyons at a lap-sit story hour for children age 3 and younger with a grown-up every Friday morning. Call the library for time. Rhymes, songs and movement games make up this story time style popularized by author Betsy Diamant-Cohen. Kay reads books, leads the group in hand rhymes and uses puppets to teach animal sounds and other concepts new to the very young. Each session is 45 minutes 30 minutes of structured activity and about 15 minutes of visiting. No sign-up is required.
