Hospice offers help to those dealing with grief at holidays
The winter holidays can be a challenging time for people who are grieving. For the bereaved, instead of bringing joy, holidays can intensify the pain of sorrow. Hospice of Franklin County recognizes that members of the Franklin County community, as well as hospice families, could use extra support at this time of year.
So, Hospice is offering two free programs that can be helpful for those who are grieving: Holiday Memorial Candle Decorating Workshops and a three-part Grieving Through the Holidays bereavement group. Registration is required. The deadline is Nov. 27.
The candle decorating workshop offers the opportunity to decorate a cylindrical candle with images and colors that are associated with a loved one. The first workshop is Dec. 4, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., at the Bernardston Senior Center. The second workshop is Dec. 5, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the New England Health Center. To register for either workshop, call Hospice of Franklin County at 774-2400 by Nov. 26.
Grieving Through the Holidays, a three-part bereavement support group, will meet Wednesdays, Dec. 11 and 18, and Jan. 8 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Hospice of Franklin County office in Greenfield. This group will provide support to discuss concerns, strategies for coping with grief, and the opportunity to share holiday experiences with group members in the new year.
A brief phone interview is required for participation. To register, call Hospice of Franklin County at 774-2400 by Nov. 27.
