Deerfield police warn of bullying scammer

DEERFIELD — A scam caller has been threatening Franklin County residents, attempting to steal personal information.

According to Deerfield police, the scam artist will call individuals with an urgent message and ask for money and personal information. The person will claim he or she got into an accident with a relative and threaten to shoot the family member if they don’t get the information, for instance.

The person uses all different kinds of threats and scenarios and typically calls cell phones.

Other towns log complaints

Deerfield police received two complaints in the last two days. Montague and Gill police have also received complaints recently.

Police advise residents to use their judgment and don’t give out personal information to unsolicited callers.
