Drug, other charges for 3 men following traffic stop

GREENFIELD — Heroin and pills landed three area men under arrest and facing possession and intent to distribute charges following a traffic stop, according to police.

Trooper Stephen Bushay of the Shelburne State Police Barracks said he stopped the vehicle on River Street at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday for minor motor vehicle infractions, including a missing front license plate.

In a subsequent search, Bushay said he found possibly 12 grams, or 70 bags’ worth, of heroin, although the drug was not packaged entirely in the usual manner. Most was in the typical wax paper bags, but some was packaged in cellophane.

Arrested were the driver and two passengers, one of whom is additionally charged with possession of $400 in counterfeit cash and the other with illegal possession of prescription painkillers.

Bryon Banas, 22, of 30 X St., Turners Falls was charged with possession of a Class A drug, heroin, with intent to distribute and simple possession of a Class A drug.

Timothy Tauscher, 22, of 16 Prospect St. Apt. 1, Greenfield, was charged with possession of a Class A drug, heroin, with intent to distribute, possession of a Class A drug, possession of counterfeit money.

Rafael Rivera, 24, of 112 Fairview St. Greenfield, was charged with possession of a Class A drug, heroin, with intent to distribute, possession of a Class A drug and possession of a Class B drug, oxycodone.
