Car seat inspection set for Tuesday

Documentary starts at 6:30 p.m.

GREENFIELD — Safe Kids of Western Massachusetts is now offering a weekly car seat inspection station at the Greenfield Fire Department at 412 Main St.

The safety checks will take place monthly on the third Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the next event scheduled for Tuesday followed by checks on March 19, April 16 and May 21.

Certified technicians will perform the inspections by appointment. Technicians will also train parents and caregivers in the proper installation and setup of their specific car seats in their own vehicles.

Safe Kids of Western Mass. is one of more than 300 coalitions across the country to be awarded grants from Safe Kids Worldwide to establish local inspection stations. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading killer of children ages 1 to 14.

“Under Massachusetts law, all children under 8 years or under 4 feet, 9 inches in height must be restrained in an appropriate car seat or booster seat,” said Summers.

The monthly car seat safety checks are free and open to the public, by appointment. Inspections usually take 20 to 30 minutes. For an appointment, call Baystate Health Link at 413-773-2454.
