to chat with new constituents on Monday
SHELBURNE FALLS — On Monday, state Sen. Benjamin B. Downing, D-Pittsfield, will hold his first “Coffee and Conversation” event of the year in Memorial Hall, in the Shelburne town offices, from 2 to 4 p.m. This is a chance for his newest constituents, including Buckland and Shelburne residents, to meet him and ask questions, or to offer comments or ideas. Downing is providing free coffee and refreshments to those who attend.

Sidewalks at issue for Hawlemont
CHARLEMONT —The Hawlemont Regional School Committee will be meeting with Charlemont Selectmen and with the town Highway Department on Monday in Town Hall, to discuss safety concerns about the lack of sidewalks on School Street, crosswalk visibility and a blinking “caution” light at the school crosswalk on Route 2 that is not working.
Time to run for town office in Colrain; nomination papers available
COLRAIN — Nomination papers for town offices in this year’s annual town election will be available as of Monday.
Selectman Duane Scranton is not seeking re-election to the post he has held for at least 15 years, and the town is looking for new candidates.
Other positions that are up for election or re-election include: town clerk, assessor, library trustee, school committee member and constable. The last day to obtain papers will be March 7 and the final day to submit them to the town clerk for certification will be March 11.
“Our town election will coincide with the (state) primary election on April 30,” said Town Clerk Robin Hartnett.
