Greenfield pedestrian hit by pickup

GREENFIELD — A local man was sent to the hospital after he was struck by a pickup while out walking.

Police were called to the area of Franklin and Church streets at 5:47 p.m., for a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.

Jonathan McGovern, 24, had been hit by a Toyota Tundra pickup that was travelling north on Franklin Street, according to Sgt. Laura Gordon.

Gordon said McGovern was seriously injured, with a cut to the head and a possibly broken femur.

“He was conscious when we arrived, but a little confused as to what had happened,” said Gordon.

Gordon said the accident remains under investigation, and the driver had not been cited Tuesday night. The name of the driver was not available at press time.

McGovern was taken by ambulance to Baystate Franklin Medical Center, where he was evaluated and transferred to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, said Gordon.

McGovern was listed in fair condition at the Springfield hospital, according to Baystate spokeswoman Amy Swisher.
