CHARLEMONT — If you think you make great chili, why not whip up a few gallons and bring it to the 17th annual Chili Cook-Off this Sunday , from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Mohawk Park Family Restaurant, on the Mohawk Trail.

Each year, a dozen or more cooks compete for bragging rights for such chili-accomplishments as “spiciest,” “most original” and “best overall.” Chili ingredients, in the past years, have ranged from ground beef to venison, from turkey to pulled pork, from vegetarian to Marguerite Willis’ “most original” chili of last year: which used cayenne pepper, dark chocolate and coffee, among other ingredients.

For a $5 donation, participants can sample all the chilis, then vote for their favorites. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Charlemont Fairgrounds, and all proceeds will be used for the annual Yankee Doodle Days fair in July.

Besides the chili, there is a cash bar, live music from the band, Zydeco Connection, and a drawing for $50 worth of scratch tickets from the Massachusetts Lottery.

To enter the cook-off as a contestant, call Carole Hall at 339-4013 or email her at carolehall@verizon.net.

Entry forms can also be obtained from: www.charlemontfairgrounds.org
