Orange seeks  state money for sidewalk work

ORANGE — The town is planning to repair or replace sidewalks on Cheney Street and East River Street in response to concerns expressed by residents.

The town is applying to the state for $90,000 to repair or replace the sidewalks along Cheney Street and $180,000 to repair or replace the sidewalks along East River Street. The town Community Development Office will be surveying and taking pictures of the conditions of the sidewalks in the future.

Recently, the North Quabbin Community Coalition conducted a needs survey to determine problems and possible solutions that are important to the residents of Orange. The results of the survey helped the Community Development Office target the Cheney and East River streets sidewalks for work.

To keep residents fully informed on the progress of the applications, residents are invited to several information sessions. Two sessions are currently scheduled. The first is at King James Court, in the Community Center, Monday, at 2 p.m. The second is in conjunction with the Community Meals Program at Bethany Lutheran Church on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Both meetings are open to the public.

Residents with questions or concerns who cannot make these meetings may call the Community Development Office at 978-544-1100, ext. 105 or 100 or send an email to commdev@townoforange.org.
