Hawley election for selectman, assessor set for March

HAWLEY — The town hopes to elect both an assessor and a selectman in a special election scheduled for March 12 in the Town Office.

Richard Desmarais was serving on both boards when he died in December.

Nomination papers are available from Town Clerk Lisa Turner. To run on the election ballot, candidates must return nomination papers with at least 30 signatures of registered voters by Jan. 22 at 5 p.m.

To pick up nomination papers, call the town clerk at 339-4319.

Both the selectman’s and assessor’s terms expire in May 2014, so elected candidates will be serving for about 15 months, said Turner.

On election day, polls will be open from 11:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Turner also wants to remind residents to fill out and return the census forms that they will receive in the mail this month. Failure to do so could jeopardize their voter registration status, she said.
