Montague seasonal trash pickup slated

TURNERS FALLS — The holiday has passed, the needles are dropping and it is time to return Christmas trees to the great outdoors from whence they came.

The Town of Montague Department of Public Works will be picking up Christmas trees curbside until Jan. 17.

Residents may also bring trees to the transfer station on Sandy Lane Wednesday’s from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or Saturdays from 7 a.m. to noon.

Erving financial thinkers needed

ERVING — The town is looking to fill empty seats on the Finance Committee after two recent resignations reduced the board’s membership to two members, less than the voting quorum of three.

Eugene Klepadlo, chairman of the Board of Selectmen, said Dennis Wonsey and Winniphred Stone resigned in December.

“I just decided it was time to resign, there’s no special reason I believe,” Wonsey said. “Just not interested at this time, that’s about it.”

Stone could not be reached for comment.

The five-seat committee is responsible for advising the Board of Selectmen and town meeting in the development and approval of the town budget and other financial concerns.

One seat was vacant before the recent resignations, leaving three to be filled by appointment of the town moderator.

Interested parties may contact Town Administrator Thomas Sharp at ervingadmin@comcast.net or 413-422-2800, ext. 100.
