Ashfield police conduct toy drive

ASHFIELD -- The town Police Department will again conduct a “Stuff a Cruiser” toy drive through Dec. 18. Ashfield will have a cruiser at Nolan’s Neighbors on Main Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 16. Other days there will be a drop box there.

“The economy continues to be really stagnant, and families are hurting ... We are just trying to do a small part in helping families in the Ashfield area and give the kids a Christmas they might not otherwise enjoy,” said Chief Patrick Droney. “We’ve gotten a bit of a late start, but hopefully this will be successful. Last year, we were able to provide a local family in need with toys for their children. It gave us a lot of satisfaction to be able to help.”

New, unwrapped toys may be dropped off at the Ashfield town offices during normal business hours, which are Monday and Tuesday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday 9 to 11, and Thursday 1 to 5. Arrangements can also be made to drop them off at the police station by appointment by calling 628-4441, ext. 1. Officers will seek out needy families in the area to get the toys to. Any leftover toys will be donated to the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in New York and New Jersey.

Questions about the program may be directed to Droney or Corporal Diane Wilder.
