Turners Falls food drive on Sunday

Recorder Staff

TURNERS FALLS — A local food pantry is in need and Friend to Friend, a new charitable group, is asking for help restocking the shelves with a food drive Sunday.

Friend to Friend is a Franklin and Hampshire county organization begun this year with a mission of practical support for families in crisis.

Co-founder Lesley Cogswell, of Montague, said she learned from an organizer the Montague Catholic Social Ministries food pantry has run dry.

The Basic Needs program provides emergency food and clothing, primarily to families.

Cogswell said she had originally intended a clothing drive, but the need for food is greater.

Drop-off for the food drive is bewteen 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday in the Montague Public Safety Complex community room, 180 Turnpike Road.

Canned goods in high need include: vegetables, tuna fish, chicken, baked beans and soups.

Peanut butter, jelly, juice, condiments and rice are also requested.

Requested non-food donations include baby wipes, toilet paper, tissues, cleaning supplies, diapers in large sizes — four and up, in opened or unopened boxes — and gift cards to Food City or Stop & Shop.

To visit the Basic Needs Program, press 103 at the Moltenbrey Apartments entrance at 43 Third St., call 413-863-4804 ext. 1002, or email ceil@mcsmcommunity.org to make an appointment.

Thank you Lesley for organizing this food drive for the Montague Catholic Social Ministries and to all of the other volunteers! We thank everyone who is able to donate!
