Application deadline for new Conway town administrator is today

CONWAY — Ahead of today’s 5 p.m. deadline, the town has received seven resumes from applicants vying to be the town’s first full-time town administrator.

Next week, the town will likely begin narrowing the field of candidates through interviews, Selectman Rick Bean said. Bean said the board, however, has to determine the process going forward — what shape the interview process will take, whether it will be public and how many people they will interview.

One option the board may consider is using a selection committee, Bean said.

Early this month, the town advertised for the $50,000 to $60,000 a year job.

At the annual town meeting, the community authorized the selectmen to create and hire a town administrator.

A town administrator would work under the direction of the Board of Selectmen.

Bean did not indicate whether the town will keep its existing position of town administration aide, held by Tom Spiro or eliminate it once a town administrator is hired. Spiro, who has worked part-time for the town for seven years, did not say whether he would apply for the position.

“This is the issue of the new position of town administrator,” Bean said. “The aide position is not an issue at this point. We’re hiring a new person for town administrator.”
