Riverside Blues & BBQ Festival returns this weekend
GREENFIELD — The Riverside Blues & BBQ Festival is coming back to Beacon Field this weekend.
About 2,000 attended the multi-day festival last year, which this year will begin with a showing of the movie, “The Lorax,” at Beacon Field on Friday at 7 p.m. So bring a lawn chair.
Festivities will continue on Saturday and Sunday with the People’s Choice Samplin’ Pit, which will feature chicken wings, and the BrewFest Samplin’ Saloon, which will feature hundreds of varieties of beer.
The cost for the chicken wing sampling is $5 for six tickets and participants will sample wings from competing teams. The cost of the brew sampling is $20 per day.
There will also be live blues music performed throughout the weekend and a craft and vendor section, where artisans will display and sell work.
The Riverside Blues & BBQ cook-off is sanctioned by the New England Barbecue Society and Kansas City Barbecue Society, the largest organization of barbecue and grilling enthusiasts in the United States.
Competitors will come from all over the region and as far away as Florida and will be vying for $5,400.
Parking for the festival will be available at 48 Sanderson St. (across from the hospital) and at the Greenfield Middle School.
The Greenfield Trolley will provide shuttle service from those locations.
There will also be a free photo booth, a pie eating contest and an awards ceremony for the barbecue competition.
